Jeroen de Valk
Writer / journalist / double bass player
Welcome to my website, which brings together some information on my various activities. On this site, I concentrate on my jazz writings, and in particular my biographies on Chet Baker and Ben Webster. After their initial Dutch editions (in 1989 and 1992, respectively), various translations were published; the Chet bio even made it into Japan and Hungaria.
In 2007, I published a thoroughly updated and expanded edition of my book about Chet Baker. It includes new interviews and every relevant detail that reached me since the first edition. An English version of this book would be a dream come true. I also collected twenty interviews: 'Go Man, Go! / In de coulissen van de jazz'. Kind of the highlights of thirty years of jazz writing. The English translation rights for all my books are available again.
For information on the newspaper I work for, you may go to www.ad.nl. As I am employed almost fulltime, my newspaper output is far too varied and voluminous to be presented here.
You will also find some poetry and details about my bass playing here. After a break of many years, I returned to the double bass and the phone hasn’t stopped ringing ever since.
